Dark Wing by Kenneth Oppel

Dark Wing
Author: Kenneth Oppel

Hidden behind the leaves, motionless against the bark...
In this book called Dark Wing, there is a new born chiropter named Dusk who lives in a sequoia tree with an entire colony of chiropters who live a normal life until Dusk, a rambunctious little one who has the ability to fly and is able to do other special talents not many other chiropters can do.

Throughout Dusks life he knew he was different, and so did everyone else. He looked stronger near the shoulders and chest and had no fur on his wings and his back legs where much weaker and the claws there never grew in, also whenever he glided like he was supposed to like all the other chiropters, he had an overwhelming urge to flap his wings.  When he did glide he ended up going way to fast and usually end up crashing into other chiropters.

At the beginning he was told he wasn’t supposed to flap, but throughout time he went up to the top of the sequoia and watched the birds and learned more and more everyday but his sister, Sylph sneaked up behind him while he was watching the birds and when he tried flying she saw it.  Dusk had pleaded to her to keep it a secret and luckily enough she did, even though everyone shuns him for looking different, Sylph has always been nice to Dusk.  Join Dusk and Sylph on this awesome adventure and find out if Dusk is who he thinks he is.

I would recommend this book to people the age of ten and above because it has some violent moments, odd creatures and words younger kids wouldn’t get.  This book is a bit of action, mystery and is fiction.  This author has also many other books such as the Silver Wing saga which I read a book in that saga and I would definitely continue reading the saga, I would rate this book an four out of five.
